Watching the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations last week made me feel quite nostalgic, especially having lived the first fifteen years of my life in the UK. I took my boys there last year so that they could visit my ‘homeland’ and we had the most amazing time – especially in London, which is definitely one of the world’s most iconic cities.
London! To me it means ‘big’, ‘exciting’, ‘vibrant’ and ‘lively’. Home not only to the Royal Family but some of the world’s most famous buildings, monuments, museums and streets (think Monopoly!), not forgetting Harrod’s, The Ritz, the River Thames and a feast of spectacular shows, restaurants and shops/markets to experience and explore.
I highly recommend doing a loop on one of the Double Decker Bus tours, so that you can take in all of the main spots – Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London and Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, 10 Downing Street, Piccadilly Circus, Marble Arch… the list goes on. Most incorporate a sector on a Thames River cruise and don’t miss a ride on the London Eye so you can view the whole amazing city from one location.
One of the easiest and most economical ways to get around the city is the Underground, so it’s a city that is very easy to explore even though it is vast. Take in Soho, Covent Garden, Hyde Park and Camden Markets… as well as Harrod’s and Oxford Street for shopping. Girls you can shop, shop, shop – so much to buy and so little time!
Don’t forget to enjoy a couple of pub meals as the food is great – ‘bangers and mash’ at its best, fish and chips, Ploughman’s Lunches and Cornish pasties – and the atmosphere cannot be beaten.
London events are also sensational. Wimbledon and Royal Ascot are world renowned. At the moment the mood of the national is at fever pitch with the current Jubilee celebrations and also the Olympics which are set to commence towards the end of July.
So make sure you visit London at least once in your lifetime – it truly is well worth the visit!
I too have been feeling very nostalgic about London whilst watching the Jubilee celebrations – what a woman! A trip to London is definitely on the cards in the near future 🙂
You will have the best time, Amber!
We are going to London in 2015. There is a big Orthodontic conference planned.
Fantastic Debbie!
Is $200 enough deposit on a trip to London!
Sounds like a great plan!
I too echo the nostalgia whilst I watched the Queens Jubilee celebrations and wish to visit the UK again – all of the places you listed I sighed and reminisced over. Next time I’m going to have a High Tea @ Harrods to just say that I’ve had high tea at Harrods 🙂 thank you for the lovely space and opportunity 🙂
Sounds good… I have done afternoon tea at the Ritz, and was definitely a treat!
