Melbourne is always a great place to visit, there’s lots to see and do in this vibrant and buzzing city and it’s all there to be enjoyed!
Take a Yarra River cruise, enjoy the Crown Casino complex and Southbank area, and visit Federation Square, Harbour Town Docklands and the renowned Queen Victoria Market. Take a stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens or Fitzroy Gardens where you can also visit Captain Cook’s cottage. There’s the Melbourne Aquarium and Melbourne Zoo if you love animals, the Eureka Tower and Luna park.
Arguably the sporting capital of Australia, your trip to Melbourne won’t be complete without a visit to the MCG, the National Tennis Centre, Etihad Stadium or Flemington Racecourse. Melbournians are avid sports fans and there’s always something to watch, whatever sport you are keen on.
Melbourne is also a shopping Mecca and the ladies love a spot of shopping followed by lunch in the heart of the city centre. There’s the Theatre District – Princess Theatre is beautiful and always has an amazing show or musical on offer – the Comedy Theatre and Arts Centre to also take your fancy.
Enjoy dinner in the effervescent Lygon Street in Carlton, which is home to fabulous authentic Italian restaurants at a great price, although there are other options too. Why not try Brunswick Street where there’s also a great atmosphere and multitude of restaurants to choose from. The trendy Flinders Lane area in the centre of the city is home to a myriad of great restaurants, bars and cafes of varying levels…. but get there early otherwise you’ll have a long wait!
The trams are a great way to get around and will transport you to St Kilda to experience the Pier and seaside area, or to the trendy shopping areas of Prahran, Elwood and South Melbourne. They are all worth a visit!
Melbourne is the gateway to the famous Great Ocean Road so that you can experience the Twelve Apostles, Phillip Island, the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula. The Great Ocean Road is an amazing car journey that many aspire to enjoy and a trip to the Yarra Valley to explore the wineries is great day trip. Take a trip to Phillip Island to experience the Fairy Penguins and the renowned race track, it’s a great day out and the penguins are a truly memorable sight to see.
There are fabulous golf courses all within close proximity to Melbourne too, or head north towards the Gold Fields country for a completely different experience.
So when you are planning your next long weekend away, consider Melbourne. There’s something for everyone in this part of the world and it’s a great place to immerse yourself in culture, shopping and city life. And if you’ve got the time, journey out into Melbourne’s surrounds for a day or more, for another great adventure….. a weekend really is not enough and will not suffice if you want to absorb all Melbourne has to offer!
