Travel is one of my greatest passions, although food (and wine!) is another one of my great passions, so a combination of the two is my idea of heaven!
There are a number of cooking tours on offer these days; to a variety of destinations but none are quite the Spirit House ‘Tag-Along Food Tours’. The Spirit House offers a fabulous and unique concept and has now been running successful food tours for several years.
For those that may not know, the Spirit House ( check them out at www.spirithouse.com.au) is one of Australia’s most awarded and renowned restaurants and cooking schools, based in Yandina, here on the Sunshine Coast. Their restaurant is out of this world, always fabulous, and the cooking school program is brilliant with thousands of ‘fans’, most of whom are die hard foodies.
The ‘Tag Along’ Asian food tours have now been running for a number of years and are a ‘must do’ for anyone who loves cooking, food and travel. The tours are a fantastic way to begin your holiday in Thailand or Vietnam… which is where the current tours are venturing to. You arrange your flights and accommodation (that’s where we come in!) and then meet up each day with Spirit House chefs and guides for a three or four day food exploration and cultural experience. You will gain a deeper understanding of the food and culture of your destination, and also experience an array of sights, sounds and tastes.
The Thailand tour commences and finishes in Bangkok, and takes in two nights at Ayutthaya as part of the adventure. Some of the highlights include a walking tour of old royal Bangkok, Or Tor Kor market to explore the raw ingredients and to visit the food vendors, elephant riding, making Persian fairy floss and visiting the King’s old summer palace.
The Vietnam tour commences and finishes in Hanoi, and is led by an expat Australian chef together with a Spirit House chef/guide. Vietnamese food is fresh, vibrant and exciting, and this tour is a feast for the senses… a culinary adventure, fascinating architecture and amazing Vietnamese food with insight into the French influence which still exists today.
Tours are limited to eight people on each, so they sell very quickly and usually within a few weeks of release. We are proud to have assisted the Spirit House with their reservations and additional travel arrangements for all of their tours for the past eight/nine years. I am fortunate to have travelled throughout Vietnam and Thailand, so can add on to your ‘Tag Along’ experience to create a holiday that is unique, fresh and exciting, taking in everything these great destinations have to offer. Check out www.spirithouse.com.au/foodtours for current dates, prices and full itinerary details.
