Vietnam is an amazing destination – so much to see and do, a fascinating and incredible history to absorb, diverse climate and a unique culture to discover.
Ho Chi Minh City is steeped in history and is where you will learn all about the Vietnam War. Reunification Hall is ornate and lavishly furnished, then head to the War Remnants Museum – a poignant place that will touch your heart.
A half day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels is a must. The myriad of tunnels are amazing, and a unique experience that has to be seen to be believed.
The streets of Ho Chi Minh City are a marvel, thousands of motor bikes and cyclos fill the streets which can be quite daunting at first, but you’ll soon take in your stride. And don’t forget to take in one of the evening Water Puppet Shows – a unique entertainment experience.
Onto Da Nang and the historic town of Hoi An. The old streets of Hoi An are lined with preserved homes, museums and assembly halls. The Japanese Covered Bridge is quaint, and it’s easy to spend hours wandering around the old town, markets and experiencing great food in one of the local restaurants.
Hanoi is the cultural and political capital of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, house and museum are the star attractions. Visiting Ho Chi Minh’s embalmed body is a moving experience and the Mausoleum is Vietnam’s most sacred building. Then organise a cyclo to tour the picturesque lakes and pagodas, enjoy the French architecture and see the beautiful temples.
Halong Bay is a major highlight and definitely worth the trip. View the bay from one of the many boats and marvel at the hundreds of limestone outcrops which jut out of the sea. Experience the caves and enjoy a fabulous seafood lunch. This really is a magical trip.
The sights are only part of your Vietnam holiday. The shopping is fantastic (lacquer ware, bags, clothes – you can get a new ‘designer wardrobe’ within 24 hours), the food is amazing and the people are wonderful.
There is so much to discover, I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface, but Vietnam is a country definitely worth a visit.
I can completely agree with your article on Vietnam. I had met so many people who loved it and I had placed a lot of teachers there for now work and I rarely heard a negative report about this amazing country. So, I just had to visit it myself and see first hand what the rave was about! I have now been to Vietnam 4 times and it never ceases to amaze me. There’s always more to discover, places to visit, food to taste and markets to shop. Great place!
It certainly is an amazing country Kim!
Well I have to say, this has inspired me even more to reach for my dreams of wanting to visit this interesting and diverse country. I didn’t know a great deal about Vietnam, just that it is on my Bucket List of places to see and experience the culture, because so many people speak so highly of it as becoming a very popular place to visit.
Your post gives me so much more information about the people, places to see and things to do and has me really excited about visiting there sometime soon hopefully. Those Cu Chi Tunnels sure do sound amazing and seeing the Halong Bay sounds like a highlight too.
Thanks for providing us with fabulous information. Your posts are great!
Thanks Toni-Louise, I really appreciate the feedback and glad that I have inspired you. It really is a diverse and amazing country!
