This is a re-post of one of my first blogs which was issued before I had my new website live, but have decided to re-post as lots of people have been asking me about Vietnam this week… obviously one of ‘the’ places to go?! Enjoy….. (next week Italy!!)
Vietnam is an amazing destination – so much to see and do, a fascinating and incredible history to absorb, diverse climate and a unique culture to discover.
Ho Chi Minh City is steeped in history and is where you will learn all about the Vietnam War. Reunification Hall is ornate and lavishly furnished, then head to the War Remnants Museum – a poignant place that will touch your heart.
A half day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels is a must. The myriad of tunnels are amazing, and a unique experience that has to be seen to be believed.
The streets of Ho Chi Minh City are a marvel, thousands of motor bikes and cyclos fill the streets which can be quite daunting at first, but you’ll soon take in your stride. And don’t forget to take in one of the evening Water Puppet Shows – a unique entertainment experience.
Onto Da Nang and the historic town of Hoi An. The old streets of Hoi An are lined with preserved homes, museums and assembly halls. The Japanese Covered Bridge is quaint, and it’s easy to spend hours wandering around the old town, markets and experiencing great food in one of the local restaurants.
Hanoi is the cultural and political capital of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum, house and museum are the star attractions. Visiting Ho Chi Minh’s embalmed body is a moving experience and the Mausoleum is Vietnam’s most sacred building. Then organise a cyclo to tour the picturesque lakes and pagodas, enjoy the French architecture and see the beautiful temples.
Halong Bay is a major highlight and definitely worth the trip. View the bay from one of the many boats and marvel at the hundreds of limestone outcrops which jut out of the sea. Experience the caves and enjoy a fabulous seafood lunch. This really is a magical trip.
The sights are only part of your Vietnam holiday. The shopping is fantastic (lacquer ware, bags, clothes – you can get a new ‘designer wardrobe’ within 24 hours), the food is amazing and the people are wonderful.
There is so much to discover, I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface, but Vietnam is a country definitely worth a visit.
