Windy Wellington

My recent trip to Wellington was a great few days away in a beautiful city situated on a magnificent, sprawling harbour. Wellington certainly lived up to reputation with the first couple of days being wild and windy beyond any expectation, but then the sun came out and we were able to enjoy the city in all its glory.

Wellington is filled with galleries and museums. Te Papa is the National Museum and currently has a fantastic Gallipoli Exhibition which moved all to tears that visited, and is definitely worth checking out if you have time. The city is also home to great shopping, wonderful cuisine, boutique beers and award winning restaurants. Wellington is known as the gateway to ‘Middle Earth’ and also the fantastic Martinborough wine region.

If you haven’t heard of the famous ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy then you must have been living under a rock. Wellington was the main filming location for the movies and the scenery is absolutely spectacular. A half day tour to ‘Middle Earth’ is a must and definitely one of the most popular actrivities to partake in.

Drive the classic wine trail through Martinborough, or better still do a tour so you don’t have to drive, so that you can sample the renowned pinot noirs and my personal favourite, the sauvignon blancs. See the fur seals and other native New Zealand wildlife at the nearby Zealandia wildlife centre, there is so much to see and do in this great region.

New Zealand is always one of my favourite destinations and one of the most popular spots for families, couples and retirees to visit. It has everything, lots to do and so much to see and experience. New Zealand is a land of adventure, spectacular scenery and a unique culture. Gourmet food and exquisite wines provide a taste for the senses. Enjoy renowned rail journeys, spectacular ski fields, and experience lots of adventure activities such as jet-boating, bungy jumping, fishing, zorbing, black-water rafting, whale watching….. the list is endless.

So if visiting New Zealand; make sure you allow 10-14 days if possible so that you can take it all in. This will enable you to experience both islands and much of what is on offer. And don’t forget to incorporate ‘windy Wellington’ into your NZ adventure trip of a lifetime as you will not be disappointed.
